Local Summer Mission Trip

Summer Plans…

Just a heads up on Faith Student Ministries summer plans. The church has offered me a sabbatical this summer, from July 5th – September 7th. I am looking forward to the time of rest and reflection this summer and starting back in the fall. In the meantime everything will go on as planned thanks to our awesome youth leaders! The summer calendar will be out shortly- Hope to see your students as often as possible!

Our summer trip this summer is a LOCAL mission trip, June 21-25. We are doing this for a few reasons; to keep our spending down, as well as to support our local ministries. Most importantly I want our students to develop a heart for serving God. Most often serving God is not as glamorous as flying to another country, or putting on VBS in some exotic location. We have a chance to serve God every day, wherever we find ourselves. This is what I want to encourage in our students with this mission trip. Plus, if your student can’t make it everyday, they can still participate.

As for the week of June 21st, we will spend our mornings serving at our VBS at Faith. The afternoons will be spent at the Gleaners food bank in Pontiac, MI. Here is where you come into play, whether your students are participating or not:

Similar to our experience with families in the Dominican Republic, we would like families to host 2-3 students in their home for the week. Why? This will give students the chance to experience the area through the eyes of other families. It will help them experience our own culture in a way that is different than their usual routines.

- My only expectations would be that you feed them, give them a place to sleep (anything indoors will do), and treat them like a guest in the evenings.
- Monday – Wednesday Night: Help them to get to know your family and what your family does for fun. If your family bowls on Wednesday nights, take them bowling. If your family likes to ride their bike to Dairy Queen, then take them along. If your family plays board games, teach them to play.
- Thursday night we will all be at the church for the VBS family night. Friday after lunch, they will be released to go home!

COST: $10( VBS T-shirt) plus any spending money…

Let me know if you’d be interested in hosting, or if your student will be participating ASAP!
